The National Park of Karaburun-Sazan is situated in the
district of Vlora. The total area of the "Marine National Park" is 12
428.00 ha. The offshore section of the Karaburun peninsula has an area of 9
848.95 ha. Local and international experts have identified the coastline as a
high value natural heritage. This region is rich with a variety of underwater
landscapes, habitats and species of marine flora and fauna with an
international value.
Many plants and organisms grow underwater such as marine
algae, sponges, jellyfish, molluscs, crustaceans, sea urchin, red coral. One of
the hallmarks of the biodiversity of this area is the underwater meadow
Posidonia. This area is inhabited by species globally endangered, such as some
types of fish, sharks, sea turtles, dolphins and monk seals.
