Elez Isufi was born in the village of
Sllove, a neighbouring village of Peshkopi, in 1861. He and his guerrilla band
fought against Serbian forces, who took control of the region after the fall of
the Ottoman empire. He led an uprising in August 1921, which continued till
December of the same year. He continued to fight to free the region from the
hand of Ahmet Zogu in March 1922.
His band crashed against the government force
and withdrew only after the troops of Great Britain intervened. He was killed
by Yugoslav troops in 1924 while fighting for the Democratic revolution led by
Fan Noli, whose revolutionary government was overthrown by Ahmet Zogu in the
end. This boulevard remembers the revolutionary fighting spirit of Isufi. It is
a pedestrians only street lined with linden trees.
