Hadrianopolis Amphitheater

The origin of the city of Hadrianopolis is yet to be identified. Bishops of Hadrianopolis are mentioned several times around 500 AD. The city of Hadrianopolis was recorded as one of the cities of Epirus Vetus. Its main attraction: the amphitheater that was excavated in the 1980s.

Based on the archaeological evidence, it is now believed that the original structure was built during the 2nd century AD and experienced a number of reconstruction and additions. The city seems to have lasted until the 7th century and was reused in the late antiquity and the middle ages. A number of excavation projects are underway.
