This is a memorial park for the
Albanian hero Gjergj Kastrioti known as Skanderbeg. He was originally buried at
the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (cathedral of Shen Kolli) in 1468. When the
Ottoman troops occupied Lezhe, the Ottomans destroyed the cathedral and the
original grave of Skanderbeg to build the Selimie Mosque. In 1981, the current
memorial building was built at the same location.
Inside the Memorial place,
visitors can take a look at a bronze bust of Skanderbeg made by Odise Paskali,
the most acclaimed sculptor of Albania. The memorial exhibition includes the
sword and spade of Skanderbeg and a series of shields, which symbolize the
battles of the national hero.
